Mount Washington Alpine Gardens
The Alpine Gardens are not a typical cultivated horticultural garden. This particular "garden' is located on the slopes of Mount Washington in New Hampshire. The garden is above the treeline, where the growth is short and hugs the ground due to severe winter weather. Access can be from the Mt. Washington Auto Road from the base to the summit and park. Then descend to the southeast and join the Tuckerman's Ravine Trail for the beginning of the descent. If you are adventuresome, hike up from Pinkham Notch above Tuckermans Ravine into the boulder area, in summer., Ground hugging azaleas, rhododendrons, willows, birches, mosses, lichens. bog laurel. bunchberry. bearberry. asters Self Guided Hiking. Dora M. Spalding Trail

Dora M. Spalding Trail, Monadnock State Park www.monadnocktrails.com/StateParkSideTrails.htm The Dora Spaulding Nature Trail is located just before the entrance to Monadnock State Park. There is a loop trail with well marked signs for wildflowers that bloom in the late spring. Also a grove of large Rhododendron maximum which flower in late July. Descriptions of various trees and vegetation in a few loop paths. Dora Spaulding Trail starts on Poole Road east of the Hinkley Trail and a path leads north out to Poole Brook along an old bridle path. Self Guided Walking. Parking available, Free.
